What to blog…

I’m taking a bit of time off from Atticus, mainly to find some paid employment (Anyone?). So I met up with some friends last night for a few pints at the Old Contemptibles in Brummagen city centre. It’s been refurbed to somewhere near it’s former glory and was looking very nice.

Anyway a friend of mine commented on the blog and specifically the Seasick Steve post. This friend knows his music so it was with some surprise that he said he hadn’t heard of Seasick but went on a search listened to some stuff, loved it and bought the abum from I-Tunes. He then suggested I perhaps change the scope of the blog away from Cultural issues (there hasn’t been any yet before you ask!) as there are numerous bloggers out there all doing it fantastically well, but I should concentrate on music and reviewing music. Now I know there are thousands of such blogs and music is such a personal choice for us but I might have a go at this and just start reviewing things I listen to and put some background info about artists and links to their sites etc and see what happens. Whadda ya reckon?

As I was thinking about this Dubber has been talking about mp3 blogs and this is worth a read over here http://newmusicstrategies.com/

  1. Well, Jez, speaking personally, I always enjoy reading music reviews. There are few things more fun in life than arguing over music! Still, I don’t see why you should completely drop the cultural stuff altogether if there’s something that particularly interests you.

I saw Seasick Steve on Jools Holland awhile back and thought he was awesome. You’d recommend the album then?

  3. Hello Annie, well we’ll give a go then! I’ll still do some cultural stuff when I get out to some of it, and I’ll link (if I ever learn how to embed web addresses!) other bloggers worth reading.
Definitely get the album it is rather fantastic if you like a bit of hobo blues, I’ll have a word with a couple of friends of mine and see if I can put preview samples of the music I review so you can get to listen to it.

  4. I’m not sure how it would work on wordpress, but if you look on my site (on the right hand side near the bottom!) there’s a programme called box which allows you to store MP3s for others to listen to. I did have the idea of asking people for new ones for mine, but haven’t really had the time. Might be an idea for yours?

  5. Hey Jez…
Well, as someone who’s been influenced by your (largely) excellent taste I’d say the more tip-offs on good music the better. And to be honest we don’t care what you think about anything else anyway.
Would be great to see you soonish. Let’s make it happen. Peace to you and the fam…

  6. You can also get Steve’s stuff on YouTube. His album reminds me of a hard rock/blues version of Ted Hawkins, the other beach bum/hobo that Andy Kershaw ‘found’ singing on the streets of LA some 15 years ago. You should hear his stuff if you haven’t already.

  7. very interesting, but I don’t agree with you
